Engineering Manager

Wadsworth Control Systems, originators of greenhouse automation in North America, is seeking an Engineering Manager to work with and lead a talented team of electrical and mechanical engineers at busy greenhouse and indoor grow automation company. This is a working engineering team lead position. The Engineering Manager reports to the Operations Manager and is based at our Arvada, Colorado manufacturing plant. Not a remote job position.

 

Key Qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering
  • Strong project management skills
  • Electro-mechanical controller experience
  • Management experience of a multi-discipline group of engineers

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead engineering team made up of electrical engineers, mechanical
    engineers, and designers.
  • Provide oversite and direction on the engineering production process.
  • Ensure the technical accuracy of engineering drawings, BOMs, product
    manuals, and other documentation of team members.
  • Oversee management of technical support team.
  • Hire, train, develop, and mentor engineers and designers.
  • Manage and implement Engineering Change Orders (ECO)
  • Manage engineered projects to improve performance, improve quality, and
    reduce cost.
  • Update and document processes for the engineering team.
  • Use ERP system and pivot tables to access and analyze data, solve problems,
    and monitor performance measures.
  • Hold team members accountable to commitments and behavioral values.
  • Foster teamwork and create an environment of collaboration, openness, and
    trust.
  • Ensure alignment of engineering team with organizational strategy.
  • Work closely with the Production Managers to maintain project flow and on
    time delivery to the customer.
  • Work closely with the Sales Team to ensure project estimates are accurate
    and on time.
  • Familiar with regulatory requirements including UL and National Electrical
    Code.
  • Support the improvement of manufacturing processes and the
    implementation of Lean.

 

Requirements:

  • Ability to create and provide final review of electrical schematics in AutoCAD LT.
  • Understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and UL508A.
  • Expert user of Excel. Strongly prefer experience with pivot tables.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, and Outlook.
  • Occasional local and domestic travel.
  • Strong organizational skills, discipline, and a systems perspective.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 

Additonal Experience:

  • Experience with a structured product development process is preferred.
  • SolidWorks software experience a plus.
  • Experience with the ERP Acumatica is a plus.

Compensation range:

$74,000 – $89,000

    Mechanical Engineer

    A minimum of BS in Mechanical Engineering

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
    Create curtain system drawings for greenhouses. Design and test curtain systems as
    needed to improve current and future curtain systems. Support production as needed to
    build designed curtain systems. Support sales to ensure estimates and design
    documents are accurate.

    SPECIFIC TASKS INCLUDE:

    GREENHOUSE CURTAIN SYSTEM PROJECT DESIGN:

    • Review and approve estimates for projects.
    • Review and verify project information is correct.
    • Produce and review mechanical drawings using SolidWorks.
    • Produce and review bills of materials.

     

    MECHANICAL DESIGN:

    • Create 3D models and drawings for new part designs.
    • Create project plans for design changes.
    • Provide processes for improved quality.
    • Provide sound decision making for production issues.
    • Maintain legacy drawings and update Bills of Materials.

     

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Create, update and review manuals.
    • Test motors to verify desired functionality
    • Answer customer’s questions regarding mechanical drawings

     

    SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

    • Ability to maintain attention to detail through repetitious operations
    • Social skills as demonstrated by pleasant handling of callers, ability to work on a
      team
    • Knowledge of SolidWorks and AutoCAD operations (we can provide training)
    • Ability to recognize and understand mechanical engineering symbols
    • Ability to verify mechanical information in drawings is correct
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of company data and information
    • Ability to study and understand greenhouse blueprints.

     

    ABILITY TO TAKE A PROJECT FROM START TO FINISH. IF PROVIDED WITH:

    • A CAD drawing of the greenhouse indicating where the trusses are located
    • A CAD drawing of the greenhouse truss side profile

     

    THE EMPLOYEE CAN DESIGN THE PROJECT, CREATING BLUEPRINTS WITH THE FOLLOWING:

    • System Overview — indicate the size of the curtain system on the greenhouse
    • Top View — Identifies the part locations required for the system
    • Truss View — Identifies the profile and dimensions of the curtain system.
    • Additional Views and Details – As needed to clarify for the installer.

     

    Wadsworth provides training but candidates should have some level of experience.
