Success Stories
Service Contract Success Story – Southeast Missouri State University
Southeast Missouri State University operates multiple greenhouses controlled by three EnviroSTEP environmental control systems, along with ventilation, heating, and cooling equipment. When staff began noticing unusual equipment behavior — including fans running unexpectedly, cooling systems not operating correctly, and inconsistent temperature readings — they scheduled a service contract visit with Wadsworth Controls.
Wadsworth Controls consultant Amanda Debevc spent two days on-site reviewing the control systems, equipment operation, and greenhouse environment. During the visit, several underlying issues were discovered that had likely been affecting greenhouse performance for some time.
The most significant finding was electrical surge damage that had blown protective components in multiple control panels, likely from a lightning strike or power surge. Several sensors in the weather station had also failed, preventing the system from properly protecting the greenhouse from wind, rain, and temperature conditions. Mechanical issues were also found with vents, shutters, and pad cooling systems that had not been functioning correctly.
During the visit, Amanda:
• Diagnosed electrical surge damage across multiple control panels
• Identified failed weather station sensors and recommended replacement
• Fixed programming issues causing heaters to run continuously
• Rewired a failed pad pump switch and reprogrammed the system
• Diagnosed stuck contactors causing fans to run continuously
• Cleaned and calibrated temperature and humidity sensors
• Reviewed ventilation system mechanical issues with the maintenance team
• Provided maintenance and operation training to staff
• Documented equipment issues and recommended repairs to prevent future damage
By the end of the visit, many operational issues had been corrected, system performance improved, and the staff had a much better understanding of how their greenhouse systems were operating and how to maintain them moving forward.
After the visit, the customer shared the following feedback:
“Our consultant Amanda Debevc was absolutely phenomenal! We really appreciated her expertise, collaboration, and detail-oriented explanations. She was worth every penny and then some!”
This visit is a great example of the value of a Wadsworth Service Contract — not just fixing problems, but preventing future failures, improving system performance, and helping greenhouse teams better understand and operate their facilities.
